Q. Does XML Vault® "shred" XML documents?
A. No. "Shredding" is the process of converting an XML document's hierarchical content into a relational form for storage in a database. The shredding process is costly in terms of time and space. Rather, XML Vault® only extracts and indexes user-specified content from the XML document. It then stores the index values and a byte-for-byte copy of the document for later retrieval.
