Lessons Learned

The IT Project Blog will host their first webinar later this month. The event, which focuses on a project manager's lessons learned process is free, open to the public, and can help PMs improve their performance and efficiency from project to project.

June 18, 2010—The IT Project Blog, a site that provides tips, tools and videos for project managers, is holding their first webinar on June 30th. It is free and open to the public, focuses on the lessons learned process and is targeted at IT project managers. The webinar will be hosted by Kathlika Thomas, head author of the IT Project Blog and seasoned project management professional.

Typically, during the conclusion of a phased project, management standards require documentation of "lessons learned" to encourage improvement of methodology and processes over time. This webinar, titled “Improve Your Projects: Learning From Past Mistakes” will review steps that a project manager can take and tools they can use when creating a lessons learned process.

Documenting lessons learned is an integral part of the lifecycle management of a project and is especially helpful to project managers who want to get better at their job over time. Just think of the repetitive nature of their role -- they end up performing the same sort of tasks in each project, whether it be building a team, communicating with and managing stakeholders, or hiring third-party vendors. For all of these tasks, understanding how they succeeded and where they fell short will maximize a project manager's performance over time and ultimately improve the efficiency with which they manage their assignments.

Attendees will receive $1,000 off their next project with NuWave Technologies, owner of the IT Project Blog, and will also get a free template to assist with the lessons learned process. There is also a preview article on the IT Project Blog called “Why Waste Your Time With a Lessons Learned Process?”.
